Who We Are

Located in Gowanus, Brooklyn, EPIC Academy is a full-time school replacement program, designed to provide top-tier academic instruction and behavioral support to students with special needs. Our goal is to create the least restrictive environment possible for our students and give them the tools they need to succeed for the rest of their lives. Because we believe our students thrive in a small, close-knit community, our enrollment is capped at 25, and children are grouped in classes of 4-8 led by 1 special education teacher and 1-3 assistant teachers. We currently serve students in grades K-4, but we will be expanding to include grade 5 in the fall of 2021.

Our Approach

Our program exists to empower students, families, and educators by creating a safe community of learners who are appreciated and valued for their differences. We strive to foster a culture of respect and positivity for a population of individuals who may have yet to experience this feeling in their educational careers. We believe that an essential part of an academic community is a social environment through which students can experience interpersonal growth.

In the classroom, students grow academically, behaviorally, and socially through a combination of large group, small group, and individual instruction. Our spaces are thoughtfully designed with large rug areas, small group tables, flexible individual seating arrangements, and calming/quiet areas areas to accommodate these different instructional models. Through our progressive model, we accommodate a diverse array of learning styles and modalities through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic approaches.
